The GCC has witnessed a remarkable boost in its retail surface in the past 10 years. Mega malls, destination malls, proximity malls, outdoor malls, all possible formats have thrived and multiplied calling for stretched brand presence in key cities of the Gulf. However, to date, very few measurements exist to evaluate mall performances. Some footfall data is available, however not everywhere, and often published too late to correct actions. In a time defined as challenging by all retail players, data is key. GCC Mall Mapping syndicated research aims to fill the existing gap by providing independently gathered, unbiased, systematic data that will bring actionable, operational insights to both brands and mall developers.
GCC Mall Mapping is a syndicated research initiative designed by Nadine Touma Gammage (former head of Business Intelligence in Chalhoub Group), managed and executed by Sapience Consultancy and endorsed by the Arab Luxury World.
The outcomes of the research outline mall awareness, visitation levels and intentions to visit. Highlighting key drivers as well as profiling visitors in terms of nationality, gender, age and income brackets. The research will answer questions such as:
- What are the consumers patterns behind mall visits?
- Are malls in distant areas cannibalizing each others?
- What key malls define the market?
- From what areas mall derive their patronage?
- What are the malls to be in according to brand target?
- Should my brand withdraw from a certain mall?
- Is my mall offer differentiating, from the consumer perceptive?
The project will be initially conducted in UAE ( Dubai and Abu Dhabi) and Saudi Arabia (Riyadh and Jeddah) and it will be extended to other GCC markets in the coming waves.. The results of the first wave will be published in June 2016, with subsequent waves to be conducted every quarter starting 2017.
